Statement on Rakhine State, Western Part of Myanmar


Inflicted by an incident in a village in Rakhine State, there was a series of riots in Sittwe and small towns along the border with Bangladesh in Rakhine. Therefore, the state of Emergency was declared the whole state of Rakhine and curfew was imposed in Sittwe, Kyauktaw, Buthidaung, and Maung Taw.
Over the last two weeks, the situation in Sittwe has been improved and the curfew in Sittwe has been reduced by 1 hour, i.e. from 18:00-06:00 to 19:00-05:00. Although there is no curfew in Mrauk U, the people are advised to stay in their houses between 22:00 and 04:00. Despite the fact that curfew is in place in the above mentioned towns, there are no restrictions for the visits and the people are leading their daily lives as usual during the day.
Besides, there is no curfew in Ngapali Beach and visitors will be able to freely enjoy their stay at the beach.
